How online interior design works

A calm design process, in three steps

Every project is delivered through , a private portal created for your project alone. There is nothing to download, and no one visits your home.

1

Share your space

We begin with your home as it is. Photographs or a slow video walk-through, a few measurements and a short questionnaire about how you live in the space give us everything we need to understand it. It takes around twenty minutes.

2

Review the concept

Your concept board arrives in , setting out the direction, the palette and the layout. We welcome your thoughts at this stage, so that every detail which follows is shaped around you.

3

Receive your finished design

Your final design is delivered with a layout drawn to scale, a colour, finishes and lighting plan, and shopping and planting lists with direct links, sourced ethically where it matters. Signature and Whole Home designs come with photorealistic visuals as well. From there, the design is yours to bring to life, at your own pace.

The process is the same wherever you are in the UK, and every design is directed and personally approved by Rachel Hannah, our founder and creative director.

Every design includes

  • Mood boards, and photorealistic visuals in Signature and Whole Home, so that the scheme can be seen before a single purchase is made
  • A floor plan or garden layout, drawn to scale
  • A named paint colour list, or a planting palette for an outdoor space
  • A clickable shopping list, kept to the figure you set
  • Styling guidance, to bring every element together
  • The support of the studio, from first brief to finished design

Sustainability at its heart

Designed to endure, long after the trends have passed

We begin with what is already there

Every project begins with what you already own. A well-loved piece or an overlooked layout often holds more potential than it is given credit for. Most rooms are better served by thoughtful rearrangement than by wholesale replacement, and most gardens by careful editing than by starting again. Knowing which pieces earn their place, which simply need repositioning and which are no longer working is a matter of judgement, and it is where the most meaningful savings are made, long before anything new is bought.

Certified where it counts

When something new is needed, we recommend it with care. Every suggestion is checked against recognised standards, FSC-certified timber, OEKO-TEX fabrics and peat-free planting, at the time your list is put together. Sourcing well-made pieces takes time and knowledge, and it is work the studio undertakes on your behalf.

Made to outlast the trend

We will never recommend replacing a perfectly good room or garden for the sake of change. We believe good design should endure well beyond this year’s colour or this season’s fashion, and that belief shapes every choice we make. The studio favours UK makers and growers, to reduce the distance each piece travels, and everything is chosen for how it will feel in ten years’ time as well as how it looks today.

Founder & Creative Director

About Rachel Hannah Gee, Interior Designer

The studio behind your Sunday feeling.

Sunday Ambience is a founder-led online design studio specialising in rustic luxury interiors and gardens. Our founder and creative director, Rachel Hannah, named the studio after the way a home feels on a slow Sunday morning: unhurried, soft and entirely your own. That feeling is the brief for every room and garden we design.

Rustic luxury is the one look the studio is built around: honest, matt materials, rustic warmth, generous empty space, and fewer but better pieces. Nothing shiny, glossy or flashy. You may have heard it called luxe rustic or rustic luxe, and its spirit is one of quiet luxury, understated and never in a hurry to impress.

It is a timeless look, neither a trend nor a mix of styles: natural wood, limewashed plaster, stone and linen, and an appreciation of things that are aged, handmade and a little imperfect. It sits as comfortably in a British period home or a country cottage as it does in a new build.

Outside, the same principles apply: relaxed, naturalistic planting, weathered timber, stone and terracotta, in gardens, courtyards, rooftops and balconies alike.

We are based in Wales and design for homes throughout the UK. Our approach remains the same whatever the project: begin with what you already own, buy less, and choose pieces that will still earn their place in ten years. Natural materials are used wherever they suit the room, and sustainable sourcing is a matter of course.

Rachel sets the creative direction for every project and personally approves every final design. Everything is delivered online, so that you have the design, the lists and the confidence to bring it to life yourself. We would be delighted to hear about your home.

Online interior design FAQs

The questions we’re asked most

All questions →
How does online design actually work?

Every project is delivered through , a private portal created for your project. You share photographs or a video walk-through, your measurements and a short style questionnaire. The studio then designs your space, and the boards, layout and lists are returned to you there, each one directed and approved by Rachel. From there, you order what you wish, when you wish, and bring the room together at your own pace. There are no site visits. Room Ambience is conducted entirely in writing, in your own time, with no calls or meetings to fit in. Signature Interior Design includes one 60-minute live concept presentation call, and Whole Home Virtual Design includes a 60-minute live vision call at the start as well. Each call follows a set agenda, shared beforehand, and the recording is sent to you afterwards.

Can I send a video instead of photos?

Yes, and a video often tells us more than photographs can. A slow walk around the room or garden shows the light, the awkward corners and the way you move through the space, all of which is difficult to read from stills alone. You are welcome to talk us through it as you film. Simply add it to with your measurements. A minute or two filmed in normal quality, rather than 4K, uploads most easily.

Do you work across the whole UK?

Yes. Sunday Ambience is an online interior design studio, so there are no site visits and everything you receive is digital. It makes no difference whether your home is in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

What if I don’t like the concept?

That is precisely what the concept stage is for. It comes first so that the direction can be changed before any of the detail is done, when doing so costs you nothing. You tell us what to keep and what to change. Room Ambience includes three rounds of changes, Signature Interior Design four, and Whole Home Virtual Design four per room. A design is not finished until it feels like yours.

Do you buy the furniture and plants for me?

No, and that is deliberate. Your list is clickable and kept to the figure you set, whether for a sofa or a rosemary bush, and every purchase remains yours to make. This allows you to spread the cost over time, plant across a season, or find your own pieces along the way.

Is my space too small, too rented or too ordinary?

No. Rented homes, small rooms, north-facing balconies and awkward corners are all welcome, and they are often the projects where careful design makes the greatest difference. If you rent, this is built into the brief from the start: nothing structural, finishes that keep your deposit safe, and containers in place of borders.

How long does it take?

Room Ambience takes two to three weeks from the point your questionnaire, photographs and measurements are all in, and Signature Interior Design three to four. If you add a second or third room, or book Whole Home Virtual Design, the turnaround is agreed at booking, depending on the number of rooms.

We would love to hear about your home

Tell us about your space and what you would like it to become. Rachel reads every enquiry personally, and the studio replies within a working day. An initial enquiry carries no obligation, and nothing is paid until you are ready to begin.
